Her experience of breast cancer in 1993 left her with a deeper trust in the power of yoga to help us to face our challenges and to heal ourselves. Since then, her key focus has been on yoga as a healing therapy, and on the effectiveness and power of the simplest of Yogic practices to help the healing process.
The approach she has been developing has grown out of her own encounter with life-changing illness, and the integration of its fruits into her life and teaching. She has offered classes for people with cancer at the Yoga Therapy Centre, London, since 1999, and has given many workshops and training days for the BWY and the Yoga Biomedical Trust. Peter Blackaby has been teaching yoga for 28 yrs. He originally trained to teach Iyengar yoga but changed direction during his training in osteopathy, and his meeting with Mary Stewart. The last fifteen years have been a slow evolution in ideas towards a more humanistic approach. A humanistic perspective to yoga focuses on the anatomy, physiology, psychology, and philosophy of the human condition from a reasoned point of view without recourse to the supernatural.
Peter Blackaby has been teaching yoga for over 20 years. He originally trained as an Iyengar teacher, but his subsequent studies in osteopathy and meetings with other yoga teachers led him to change his direction, pursuing a more bio-mechanically friendly approach to asana work. Recently this has developed into a broader ‘humanistic’ perspective, with the intention of making yoga more accessible to the western mind by grounding the physical, physiological and psychological effects of yoga practice in a rational context.

The dialogue between dynamic and static postures
• Dynamic postures favour circulation, open our perception and allow us to inhabit our body as well as the space around us.
• The use of static postures favours inner communication and creates an intense dialogue between inside and outside. Static postures purify inner space and free our vital energy.
• A well-balanced use of dynamic and static postures opens a living space for being in the body and in the world.
Peter Hersnack, who is Danish, is a yoga teacher trainer linked to The French Institute of Yoga (Institut Francais de Yoga). He studied full time with T.K.V. Desikachar during four years between 1970 and 1975. Today he lives in Montpellier in France.
Peter invites his students to question the inner meaning of practice and teaching. Together they explore states of body and breath that allows inner presence as well as living relationship with what is.
