Conditional planning permission was granted in January to convert a disused fire station into a yoga studio. The 100 year old Marsden Fire Station, Manchester Road, Huddersfield has stood empty since 2005. Kirklees Council has approved plans to convert the building and build a two storey extension. The plans include provision for a cafe, yoga studio, a manager's flat and 24 parking spaces.

Our Regional AGM and Yoga Day at the jaw-dropping Cave Castle in East Yorkshire was, to our delight, universally well received.
Despite terrible February weather conditions all but a couple of attendees made it to the spectacular venue in time. Even the tutors, Zoë Knott and her husband Hugh Grainger, who had travelled a good distance to be there, made it well on time. read the full report »
Once ensconced in the plush, warm, carpeted meeting room the hard work began, the physically challenging asana was greeted with enthusiasm by all who attended. Zoë talked us through the asana whilst Hugh gave inspirational demonstrations; then we all attempted Hugh-like proficiency whilst he and Zoë circulated giving helpful adjustments, insightful comments and encouragment!
It seemed Zoë and Hugh enjoyed the day almost as much as we did. Afterwards, Zoë said “So pleased you enjoyed the day. We had a delightful time with everyone and were buzzing from the warmth and enthusiasm of the group by the end of the day.”
Attendees had very positive comments too—an almost perfect day!!
“I loved the day on Saturday and found it inspirational - and everybody was so nice. It was my first BWY day. I will be attending the day on Yoga and Sound on May 21st and the one in York on the 22nd - both booked. As you can see I really am enthused.”
“It was brilliant, thank you very much! Please do put me on your mailing list for other days. Cheers!”
“It was brilliant and I enjoyed every single minute. Everyone was welcoming, the tutors were amazing, it was well organised—everything was just great. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it!”
If you attended and would like the handouts please email .
Oh yes, I almost forgot ... the AGM went very smoothly with a good exchange of thoughts and ideas. The coffee and raffle for three prizes of 'membership fee for one year' went down like a storm and got everyone in the meeting room on time and ready to do business. As ever, Judy Downie kept us all to time so that we didn't miss a minute of Yoga!

I have already offered to host her first First Aid Training Day and I am looking forward to that in the summer.
