The BWY is a regionally structured membership organisation. The Yorkshire Region is run by a voluntary committee who meet four times a year to organise events and deal with matters arising. One of our main roles is to train teachers to the highest standards so that they can teach yoga safely and effectively. A regional magazine called Wheels Within is published four times a year with news, views and events of a local nature. The Regional Congress is held annually at Cober Hill near Scarborough in December and this is always a really good pre-Christmas weekend for all, with internationally renowned tutors and a full supporting cast of professionals.
If you join the BWY (£25.00 a year members* / £60.00 for teachers) you get the following benefits:
Join the BWY here.
We are lucky to be able to boast that the region has had committee members that have gone on to national roles, Phillip Clint and Di Kendall have held posts such BWY Chair and BWY Education Committee Chair. Yorkshire people are known not only speaking out but for getting things done on a very practical level. So, if you feel you would like your voice to be heard or have any issues you would like to raise then please get in touch with any member of the committee and we will endeavour to put your words into our action.
Regional Officer Janet Rhodes provides the link between our committee and BWY National Executive and regularly attends meetings with the other ROs. She organises and co-ordinates our regional congress at Cober Hill and provides general support and ecouragement to all members of the committee. Janet has been a BWY Teacher for 17 years.
County Representatives are responsible for encouraging membership growth, answering questions raised by members or prospective members and organising and running CPD events for teachers. Their role is to ensure that BWY is actively and positively promoted in their county and they are the primary link between members of the public who seek classes/information about yoga and the BWY as the Governing Body for Yoga in the UK.
